WILLIAM THORNTON of Newton
b. 1359, East Newton, Yorkshire, England d. ABT 1418 Notes
"Shortly after the Conquest, King Malcolm of Scotland created an insurrection in Yorkshire, whereupon William, The Conqueror so devastated Yorkshire that 10 years later when he held the first census, called the Domesday Book, the assets in Yorkshire were considered so worthless that Yorkshire was omitted from the census. This left a vacant spot in the population; and, while the Normans became generally the ruling class throughout the country, Yorkshire in particular was repopulated by the Norman tide, and a concentration of the "Thor 'stane" group was effected in that area. We find, therefore, that many of our Thornton immigrants to this country were from Yorkshire, or the region between Cambridge and York."

My line is solid from Luke on down. There is a lot of controversy over his parentage!
The Thornton DNA Project is close to finding conclusive evidence of the relationship of William and Luke.
