Every year we try to give back to the community that has been so giving to us. Last year we master planned a Lard Wrestling toy drive. We offered music, food and fun for all ages. And of course "prize money" for the last three standing. It was a hard road for the wrestlers. Especially for the Pork Fat Queen, she worked hard to be the last ONE standing. However, they had the softest skin in the county. We filled the trailer full of toys for the St. Marks Volunteer Fire Department to pass out to Wakulla's little ones. We had a blast!!!!!!!! We offered the children a play ground of their own, protected by the Florida Highway Patrol. If you missed it, you missed a hogtastic good time.
This is how it works.........
All wrestlers must be female and over the age of 18 with a valid photo ID.
All on lookers must bring a new unwrapped toy or donate $5.00 to the fire department for the purchase of a new toy for the toy drive.
If you or someone you know would like to enter our "lard pitt", please contact us at any time. This year we are hoping to fill 2 trailers full of toy donations. 2008's event is planned for December 13th, from noon-6pm, call everyone you know to mark their calendars for this special day in Wakulla County. I would like to thank Adrienne Bishop, owner of Savannah’s Country Buffet Restaurant, for all of the time, money, and hard work invested in ensuring that Wakulla County children have a merrier Christmas.
Those of you who attended know what a class act “Wakulla County’s First Annual Pig Roast and Pork Fat Wrestling Contest” was. Those who didn’t missed a laid back, fun filled time. The Wakulla Fire Department and the Florida Highway Patrol helped with parking.
Congratulations to the First Annual Pork Fat Wrestling Queen, Wendy Cox, and runner up, Shirley Lindsay.
The public, in addition to enjoying the good food, had the opportunity to view numerous motorcycles that participated. Hopefully next year, the streetrodders and others of similar interest will be invited to display their vehicles.
Wakulla County children were winners because a whole trailer load of toys was collected for distribution at Wakulla Fire Departments, with County Commission support and involvement, next year’s event looks even better.
Thanks to all who participated in making this a great Christmas for our children. This Wakulla resident enjoyed it; I will be back next year.
